Google Quality Score: Essential Information [VIDEO]

One of the great mysteries of paid traffic is understanding the factors that motivate the Google Gods to place your PPC ad in position 1, 2 or even 3. This positioning is determined by something called Ad Rank. But how can you improve your Ad Rank? You do this by improving your Quality Score, which is what we’re going to explain here. (We also have a little help from Google’s Chief Economist, Val Harian, in an easy to follow video in this post!)

The first thing to know is that this is an AUCTION.

You are bidding against other advertisers for the opportunity to put your ad in front of user’s eyeballs. But if you think the merchant willing to pay the most money wins, you’d be wrong. Here’s why…

There are really four considerations to who wins top placement. These are:

  1. How much you are willing to pay per click (duh!)
  2. Your ad copy (does it make people click on the ad?)
  3. The relevance of your ad (does your ad copy match the user’s query?)
  4. The quality of your landing page (does the destination match the ad, the query and the keyword?)

What’s interesting to note is that all of these things are in your control. So we can stop blaming those cheddar heads at Google.
Turns out we’re the cheddar heads.

So, let’s break those four qualifiers down a little more.

Number 1: Bid price
This is pretty easy to grasp. Bid as much as you can afford to pay. Remember, you can bid higher and lower your daily budget to manage expenses if necessary.

Another important thing to know when setting up your AdWords campaign – when it comes to keywords, LESS is MORE. Gone are the days when you could have hundreds of keywords in your campaign to try and hit a bigger target. Google likes small, focused groups of keywords that are actually contained in the content. Every landing page should try to incorporate it’s target keywords in the URL, the copy and the ad itself.

Number 2: Click Through Rate (CTR)
I know, I know… Number 2 changed from “Ad Copy” to “CTR”. I did this to make a point. As it turns out, CTR is the single biggest factor in determining your Ad Rank. Google holds public opinion in the highest regard – thus, if lots of people click on your ad, it must be a good ad.

The question, then, is “How do I get people to want to click on my ad?”

Well, provided that you have correctly identified the target audience through proper keywords, the only motivating factor left is COPY. When you have good, enticing, relevant, even controversial copy, people will want to click on it.

Number 3: Ad Relevance
Related and relevant are not the same thing. If someone searches for “best rated golf clubs”, they are unlikely to click on the ad that says, “Glow-in-the-dark golf balls”. They’re related by golf categorically, but that’s not what the user is searching for. And when they don’t click on your displayed ad, your CTR goes down and drags down your Quality Score with it! So give ‘em what they want by choosing relevant keywords and writing relevant copy.

Number 4: Landing Page Quality
When someone does click on your ad, they are directed to a webpage. This initial page is their “landing page”, and it is another huge factor in determining your Quality Score.

There are many things that contribute to a successful landing page, and there are endless tutorials available online to help. One of the chief contributors is again, relevancy. Google wants to see consistency across the spectrum of the user experience, so be certain that what is advertised is what they get. Some ways to help ensure this? Use the keyword (or keyphrase) in the landing page URL and the headline of the content, as well as in the body copy. For example, in our (fictional) “best rated golf clubs” scenario:

Keyword phrase: “best rated golf clubs”
Ad: Swingers – undeniably the best rated golf clubs, ever!
Landing Page URL:
Landing Page headline: Looking for the best rated golf clubs? You’ve found them! Here’s why…

Other factors that make up a quality landing page are:

  • Original content
  • Clear, well executed information. Videos and infographics are favored components.
  • NO advertising. Don’t put AdSense on your landing page. It’s a big no-no.
  • Transparency in intention. If you are trying to get an opt-in, make sure that is clear in the ad. If you are selling something, try not to sell on the landing page, but rather give valuable content and then offer a link for more information about your product or service.

So, now with that understanding in place, let’s meet Val Harian, the Chief Economist at Google, who will explain exactly how the Quality Score is calculated so you can CRUSH IT with your AdWords campaign!

Ain’t No Such Thing As “Secure Downloads”!

I was just perusing some competitors websites to see what they have to say for themselves…

I use the term “competitor” loosely, because there really isn’t anyone else out there who seems to understand the core problem in the digital goods landscape, let alone try to solve it.

For example, check out this blurb from a leading digital delivery service, who will remain nameless so as not to publicly embarrass them or single them out – just about every content delivery system makes a similar claim:

When you are in the business of selling digital products, securing downloads and protecting downloads is a main concern.  It is essential that all files be protected and secure.  With the [edit] platform, there is nothing to worry about.  Our system focuses on securing download files for both our members and their customers.  As a [edit] member you can store your downloadable products in our protected system.  What this means is that your files can only be accessed through special links either by you or your confirmed customers.  Customers receive links once payment is received, so there is no risk of delivering downloads to the wrong recipient.

Sounds pretty good, right?

But here’s the kink in the armor, the soft underbelly, the weak link…

There is no such thing as a secure download!

The problem lies in the word DOWNLOAD. It doesn’t matter how the customer got the download, once they’ve downloaded the file it is UNSECURE. And gone, forever. They can now easily do with it as they please, such as sharing it freely, reselling it or uploading it to a file-sharing site!

It’s the world we live in – everything is social, bloggable, uploadable. Digital products make this easy – one click and it’s been duplicated and distributed to all takers. Physical products never really had to worry about this.

It’s not as easy to give your friends copies of your couch.

So how does one distribute digital products securely, if downloads are off the table?

We believe the answer to this problem is streaming access. Of course, the word “access” has almost as many holes in it as “download” does. Access can easily be shared, if preventative measures aren’t in place (“Hey Joe, what’s your password to the membership site again?”)

The solution is streaming access to authenticated devices. Think of it as cable broadcasting, from the television studio to the consumer’s (authenticated) cable decoder. It’s not easy to watch the latest episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm if you don’t pay HBO.

Creating a broadcast type system that can deliver any kind of digital product, even entire websites, wasn’t easy. There were many things to be considered, many “backdoors” that needed to be closed. But that’s exactly what we did at Revizzit – and now you can be the “studio exec” in charge of all your digital products!

To find out more about Revizzit’s revolutionary system, check out this video.

But, if nothing else, don’t be fooled by the secure download claim again!

Revizzit: The Big Picture [video]

When you have something that is so revolutionary, and does so many amazing things, it can be difficult to share the big idea in easy to comprehend terms.

Here are two BIG PICTURE videos that describe the core features and basic functionality of Revizzit, the platform for exclusive digital content. Keep in mind that most of these concepts can be adapted to benefit nearly every industry, not just eCommerce products!

Products We Love: Unbounce

Even though we have a technology team at our beck and call, we don’t like to pester them with our micro-split-testing adjustments every other day. They have enough to do, and frankly, their time (expensive as it is) is far better served doing something mind-boggling in Matrix-land, working to make Revizzit even better than it is.

So, when we discovered Unbounce, there was a collective “Schwinnnng!” that could be heard all the way to Wayne’s World.

Unbounce provides marketers with an easy to use, WYSIWYG editor that allows for creation, tracking and A/B split-testing of landing pages. They make it easy to integrate your CMS lead generators, Google Analytics and even Javascript. Plus, they have a host of great looking templates to get you up and running fast.

We immediately set out creating our landing and sales pages, set up some variants to split test, then in a few days we went back and looked at the results. We never had to rely on HTML coding or, more importantly, our technology team.

Okay, I admit it. I’m having fun using Unbounce to make our pages. I enjoy making small changes and then looking at the data, awarding a champion page – and then tweaking that one some more. When was the last time you could say it’s fun doing your job? Unless, of course, you are also using Revizzit :-)

Finally, we wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t mention the other thing Unbounce does really well. That would be blogging. The Unbounce blog is inspiring, informational and enjoyable to read. We can only hope to match them in the blogosphere… Check out their blog at

Superpowers, Available Now!

The Revizzionaries have landed on planet Earth.

Armed with amazing abilities and powers far beyond those of ordinary online entrepreneurs, these superbeings formed an advanced system of creating and delivering digital content online and dubbed it “Revizzit” – ensuring they could be prosperous in this new world while enjoying the freedom that comes with having an online business.

The Revizzionaries made it their mission to share their superpowers with all content creators. Lucky for us, no spider bites or freak radioactive disasters are necessary…

So, what are these superpowers, you may ask?

Their powers are far and wide reaching, and some have yet to even be discovered! But for now, we shall try to list (in no particular order) as many as we can using our ordinary human senses… This list may not be complete, but it’s a good start:

  •  Create Any Kind of Product – Unlike mere mortals, Revizzionaries do not need to differentiate between eBook, eCourse, Video, Online Game, Website, Membership site or eZine. All are possible – AND INTERCHANGEABLE – inside Revizzit. Add videos to your eBook. Charge admission to your website. Turn your online game into a subscription model, add a player’s guide and a chat room! No boundaries… now that’s super!
  • Anti-Piracy FingerprintingIf there’s one thing superheroes hate, it’s criminals. And criminals hate getting caught. With Revizzit, your entire product (not just the videos) are protected by an invisible overlay that identifies the user in the case of screen-capture recordings or image grabs.
  • Dynamic Updating – To the common Earthling, many of our powers appear to be MAGIC. This power is one of those… Imagine changing a line of text, an image, a link, or even an entire page or chapter in your publication and having it change EVERY COPY IN EXISTENCE! That’s how we roll. Magic? You betcha!
  • In-Product Upsells and Customization – Add a “magic sales page” that allows your customer to purchase additional content, such as bonus chapters or videos. After the transaction is complete, the sales page DISAPPEARS and is REPLACED by the new content – right inside the product! After all, once they’ve bought it, they really don’t need to see the ad anymore… right?
  • Dripped Content – Create a product that rolls out over time – no worries, Revizzit will “drip” the pages or chapters based on the schedule that you set, and it will modify the product without any effort from your customers. Plus, each customer is on their own, individual roll-out plan. Superpowers on Autopilot… It just happens!
  • Unlockable Content – How super is this? You have a bonus chapter from an affiliate offer that gets unlocked when the customer enters a secret code! Or maybe you want to have the customer pass a test before they can move on to the next level? It’s all automatic when you become a Revizzionary!
  • Launch Date In/Out Settings – Your time-sensitive offer is managed by simply setting availability times/dates. The “buy now” button is only active when you say so – no need to scramble to your FTP panel to add or remove HTML code.
  • Content Security – When you visit the Smithsonian, they generally frown on people taking pictures off the wall or walking out the door with their books. Why should your valuable content be any different? Revizzit products (including websites) have no copy/paste, no right-click menu, and no URL exposure. Your customers will leave the content right where they found it – inside your EXCLUSIVE product!
  • Source Code Security – And while we’re on the subject… We decided to close another huge backdoor to your valuable content: Your source code. In Revizzit, there is no access to your HTML code, your CSS code or your discreet video and software links.
  • Interactive Table of Contents – Each Revizzit product comes with a custom, interactive table of contents. List every page, or just the chapter headings – and add tags to help define the listing. Then, with one click, they jump straight to the meat and potatoes.
  • Multiple Product View Modes – Your customers aren’t drones. They are each unique individuals – that’s why Revizzit gives them multiple ways to navigate their products and content: List mode, Page mode, Book mode, and Thumbnail mode.
  • Product Whitelisting – Certain products aren’t meant for everyone. Groups, organizations, and even inter-office communications need to restrict access to ONLY the members, without worrying about the link to the product going “rogue”. With Revizzit’s whitelist feature enabled, only accounts registered with specific emails can be authorized to view the product. Revizzit gives you the power to be all “hoity-toity”.
  • Verified Customer Distribution – Every Revizzit product is live-streamed to your customers. Every few minutes, our servers re-authorize the player to see what’s allowed to be seen – and what’s not. When a new purchase is detected, it streams in, but if a refund was detected… (see next superpower)
  • Deactivate Products – Possibly the “super-est” power… When a customer asks for a refund or ends their subscription to your product, you have the amazing ability to TURN THE PRODUCT OFF. Use this power wisely.
  • Easy Monetization and Integration – Revizzit supplies everything you need to start making money from your products – Paypal integration, shopping cart, online catalog, and pre-configured Buy Button code. Just paste the code on your sales page and we’ll handle the rest.
  • Choose Your Path – Unlike those other Earthling platforms that take 30% or more of your gross sales, Revizzit offers two ways to play: Our Basic plan fee is a scant 10% of NET sales – yep, we wait 30 days until your returns are processed before billing – and our Plus plan has NO commissions, you’ll only pay $497/mo no matter how much you sell!
  • Product Bundling – Got a whole mess o’ products? Like to mix them together for special deals and what not? We got a button for that. Bundle your Revizzit products any way you like, set the bundle price, done. Works even with recurring priced products!
  • No Approval Process – Earthlings love to tell you how to run your business, especially what you’re allowed to sell. Not us. As long as it’s completely legal, we don’t give a scratch. Do your own thang.
  • Traffic and Sales Generation – You can get started selling without even having a website. Say what??? Yep. Revizzit gives you the option of listing your product in our (free) Global Catalog. Just list it, and start telling the world about it. Got a website? Our Global Catalog can also drive traffic directly to your sales page, where you can close the deal YOUR way. We’ll even send them to your Thank You page afterwards for those awkward upsells… Now that’s POWER!
  • Customer Relationship Management – What’s your best lead? A customer who has previously purchased from you. What’s the worst thing you can do? Lose them by sending too many emails. Use your dynamic Revizzit product to open a direct line of communication right inside the product they bought, by simply adding a “Latest News” page and update it often.
  • In-Product Community Building – Okay, you have, like, 500 customers. Maybe more. And what do they ALL have in common? YOUR PRODUCT! So why not let them network, and spend everyday telling each other how awesome you are? Just add a Networking Portal to your product, such as a private forum or chat room, and let them hangout. Your product is now on it’s way to becoming a brand.
  • Social Pages – Despite all of the Fort Knox-like security Revizzit provides, we know that some things need to be shared freely. That’s why you always have a choice which product pages can be downloaded and printed, shared, etc., and which ones are off-limits. We’re not completely anti-social, you know!

For those of you that would appreciate these awesome, blistering, Zeus-like powers – they can be yours by simply becoming a Revizzionary, like us.

Go to to power up now!
